Wound and Hyperbaric Program

Wounds are meant to be healed.

The Wound and Hyperbaric Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital is home to the leading wound care specialists and treatment options in the region.

Do you suffer from a sore or wound that just refuses to heal? You’re not alone. Millions of Americans suffer from chronic wounds caused by a wide variety of conditions. Left untreated, wounds can lead to severe or even permanent damage.

The healing of a wound is a natural process that most of us take for granted. For some people, however, it can be a complex medical problem that requires special treatment and care. That’s where we come in.

We can help you with:

  • Infections requiring IV antibiotics
  • Wounds requiring different types of debridement
  • Amputation care
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Necrotizing fascitis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Chronic venous stasis disease
  • Post trauma
  • Burns/skin disorders and diseases
  • Surgical non-healing wounds
  • Arterial disease
  • Neuropathic disease
  • Ostomy and fistula care
  • Teaching/incontinence care

how the process works

Initially, you’ll be seen by a clinical nurse specialist and a physician, who will evaluate your wound based on the disease process and the wound’s location. This evaluation helps us determine your plan of care, treatment and any tests you may need. In some cases, we take a multidisciplinary approach to treating you, which may include various surgeons, physicians, home care, therapy and more, as needed.

Most important, the center is focused on achieving a positive outcome for you… to help you restore and prevent skin and wound care complications, and to bring you to an optimum level of wellness and functioning.

we’ll help you ease the pain

Pain from wounds, neuropathy and ischemia is common for patients, but our institute is one of the few to address this crippling problem. In addition to comprehensive wound care, we also offer specialists in pain medicine, prosthetics and orthotics. Their expertise can help you manage symptoms and restore function. When it comes to treating pain, you couldn’t be in better hands.

Hyperbaric medicine — healing that’s as easy as breathing

Safe, non-invasive and completely painless, hyperbaric medicine is one of the most powerful treatment methods available today for healing chronic wounds. You simply lie in a comfortable chamber, relax and breathe pressurized, 100% oxygen. This brings pure, healing oxygen to wounds and damaged tissue, helping you fight infection and speed the healing process.

The Wound and Hyperbaric Institute features two, state-of-the-art computer-controlled chambers, making it one of the most advanced facilities in the world for hyperbaric medicine.

hyperbaric medicine helps your body:

  • Reduce inflammation that hinders blood flow to tissues
  • Kill bacteria to avoid disease
  • Boost the infection-fighting power of white blood cells
  • Stimulate blood vessel growth in damaged tissue, bringing more oxygen and healing

The chambers are equipped with audio-visual entertainment systems, so you can watch movies or TV or listen to music while your body naturally heals.
