St. Anthony's Community Hospital Presents "Flavorful and Functional use of Fresh Herbs and Spices”
WARWICK, NY (February 19, 2010) – Fresh herbs and spices have been an integral part of good cooking for centuries but did you know that herbs have been used for hundreds of years to heal or that that many spices are also potent defenders of good health?
March is National Nutrition Month and on Wednesday evening, March 10, St. Anthony Community Hospital’s dietary department will be presenting a free, community based seminar on the “Flavorful and Functional use of Fresh Herbs and Spices.”
The entertaining as well as educational event begins at 5 p.m. and will be held in the Greenbriar Room at Mount Alverno Center, 20 Grand Street. Mount Alverno is just ¼ mile past the hospital and there is ample parking space. Seating, however, is limited and participants must register by calling 987-5197.
The evening program will feature a power point presentation by Lead Dietitian Janine Killeen RD, CDE, CDN on the medicinal value of using fresh herbs and spices. Her presentation will be accompanied by a flavorful, savory cooking demonstration by Carmela Decker, food service assistant manager, featuring Grilled Chicken Pesto, Quinoa Salad served over Green Herbed Salad. Dietitians Gabrielle Washburn, RD and Lynn Palmieri, DTR will assist with the presentation and every guest will have an opportunity to sample this flavorful and healthful dish.
