24-Bed Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit

The Adult Inpatient Program at Bon Secours Community Hospital is designed to provide a patient-centered and comprehensive treatment program for adults ages 18 and older who are struggling with an acute phase of mental illness.

Our program takes a strength-based approach to assist individuals in crisis move toward psychiatric stability and recovery. Comprehensive assessments, evidence-based treatments, and detailed discharge planning are objectives of our service.  Each is provided by a highly trained and caring staff dedicated to providing quality and supportive care. Our team of experts consists of board certified psychiatrist, licensed certified social workers – therapist, registered professional nurses, occupational therapist and certified occupational therapist assistants, mental health technicians and activity aids.

Program Goals

•    Provide rapid stabilization of acute symptoms

•    Help the individual identify stressors that interfere with optimal functioning  at home
     and in the workplace

•    Create an effective, individualized treatment plan including discharge planning

We provide treatment for all major diagnostic categories, including affective, psychotic, dual diagnosis and personality disorders. Patient meets with their multidisciplinary treatment team daily to develop and implement their treatment plan. Treatment may include individual psychotherapy, marital/family therapy, psychopharmacology, patient and family education, and a variety of group psychotherapies.

Co-occurring Disorders

Our evidence-based treatment will address co-occurring disorders and seeks to empower persons to move themselves toward sobriety and good mental health. Our goal is to assist individuals move past an acute psychiatric crisis as well as learn how substance abuse issues influence and impact their overall health and well-being. Access to Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other 12-step programs is a very important aspect of our program.    

Discharge planning is a critical part of the treatment program, and begins on the day of admission. Patients are transitioned to the appropriate level of care as clinical needs dictate.

Peer Bridger Program

The multidisciplinary team works in collaboration with our community partner, Independent Living, Inc. to provide peer supports while on unit and in the community.  This patient friendly program focuses on developing a detailed WRAP plan and provides direct support in the community after discharge.  What is a WRAP plan?  A WRAP plan is a wellness recovery action plan.  Our team will identify the wellness tools that will most benefit our patients to ensure a safe recovery.
